Rubber carbon black is carbon black for rubber. It is not a strict concept, but is mainly used in rubber products. It is a kind of carbon black product with some statistical and standardized characteristics. It is a relatively special carbon black. (used in inks, paints, etc.). But it is not to say that rubber carbon black can only be used in rubber products. In fact, many plastic products and other products also use the coloring properties of rubber carbon black for product processing.
Rubber carbon black is mainly used in tires, rubber compounds, silicone rubber and other rubber products.
Rubber carbon black model division:
my country began to use the American ASTM1765-81 classification naming system in the 1980s, and the naming system consists of four characters. The first character is the Latin letter "N" or "S", indicating the effect of carbon black on the cure rate in the standard compound. The letter "N" indicates the normal cure rate typical of furnace carbon blacks that have not been specially treated to alter the cure rate of the compound. The letter "S" indicates a slow vulcanization rate and is used for gas-mixed carbon blacks or furnace carbon blacks that have been modified to reduce the vulcanization rate of the compound. Note: Between "N" and "S" carbon blacks, there may be significant variations in vulcanization rates. The second character is an Arabic numeral, indicating the average surface area of carbon black determined by nitrogen adsorption method. The carbon black surface area is divided into 10 ranges, that is, 10 groups, and each group is assigned a representative number, as shown in the figure below.
Main characteristics of rubber carbon black:
The GB/T3778-2011 national standard stipulates the iodine absorption value, oil absorption value, compression oil absorption value, coloring strength, CTAB adsorption specific surface area, STSA external area, NSA total surface area, heating loss, pouring density, 300% constant The characteristic indicators of carbon black varieties such as tensile stress, ash content, sieve residue and subdivision content. The characteristics corresponding to the characteristic indexes listed in the national standard are the most important characteristics of carbon black, and these indexes are also the most important technical parameters of carbon black.
All products such as N110, N220, N330, N326, and N550 have clear corresponding characteristic indicators, such as N330, which is the most widely used, and the national standard requires iodine absorption value: 82±6, oil absorption value: 102±6, compression oil absorption value 82-94 , Tinting strength: 96-112, CTAB inner surface area: 73-85, STSA outer area: 69-81, heating loss ≤ 2% and so on. This standard is the requirement of the 2011 version of the national standard, and the new 2021 national standard will be implemented on May 1, 2022, and the index value may change.
The meaning of each characteristic index
Each characteristic index of carbon black has a substantial impact on the different functions of carbon black performance in the use of downstream products. Different types of carbon black have specific application fields that are suitable for them.
